So, about a month ago, I had 7 hives flying on warm days and pulling in maple pollen. Not wanting a repeat of last year's swarm extravaganza, I resolved to be proactive, and ordered 5 queens to make swarm-prevention splits.
Then the weather turned to shit, and now I only have 3 hives. Too late to change my order, so I fed a metric butt ton of pollen substitute to stimulate brood production in anticipation of making up 5 nucs with these queens.
Well, today the queens arrived, and I only had enough combined strength to make up 2 nucs. So I left the corks in and am banking queens in them for the time being.
Not really sure what to do next. I am just hoping for more brood to take next weekend.
